  • WISH Herefordshire is a useful source of information, including local food stores / deliveries and virtual exercises and activities to do at home. Work is undertaken to keep this information up to date and relevant. If you know of any changes or additional services please could you ask they register them with WISH. A lot has been added to this site in light of Covid 19 and any help you can give to promote WISH locally, as a community resource, would be greatly appreciated.

Posted 28 Apr 2020 Message from Shobdon Airfield Operations Manager

As you will be aware, Shobdon Airfield has been closed to all except emergency, utilities and military flights for the last five weeks because of the Covid-19 emergency. This is in line with guidance from the Civil Aviation Authority for recreational and instruction flying, to comply with the ‘stay at home’ government restrictions and to protect everyone on the airfield.
Recently, the CAA have issued supplementary guidance permitting essential maintenance flights for aircraft, including where the health of aircraft engines requires a short flight every few weeks to bring them up to full operating temperature.  The airfield has received several requests from aircraft owners for such flights, and is permitting these flights on specified days only, the first of these being this coming Friday, 1 May.  The flights will take place according to the CAA guidance, will be spaced throughout the day and be of short duration in the local area around the airfield.  Your residents may, therefore, notice some increased aircraft activity on that day, but please be assured that these are only being permitted where they are essential, and that general airfield operations will not be recommencing until government restrictions are lifted to permit these.

Our teams at The Riverside Inn and The Bateman Arms, Shobdon in the coming weeks are organising food take away and delivery service and looking at also preparing to supply food items such as bread, meat, fruit and veg, milk to anyone in the local communities that may be self isolating or struggling with ever increasing restriction.

We are taking all precautions with this, but we are starting to discuss with other local parishes if we can be of assistance, as supermarket and home deliveries become more difficult.

If anyone has any idea of anything we can do to help in these difficult times, please call me directly on 01568708440, and we will update everyone as things develop.
